    Down Shark Navigator

    Customer Reviews

    Shark Helmsman
I recently purchased the Shark (uncorrupted) Navigator for my wife who has her own cleaning business and goes through vacuums like Grant booming through Richmond. I saw the ad on tv, then read many reviews on the product and decided to give it a try. It gets used four to fives natural life per week, basically serving as a commercial-style vacuum.
A month into useage, my woman is quite pleased with the Shark and says the only thing she wished it had was an auto retractable rope. Suction good, quality good.
Initially she was concerned about how the unit would perform on carpets vs flooring. It does have a self propelled have a role which helps glide over carpeting.....less wear and tear on the old arm. As well, when the unit is on and in the upright rank, the self propel feature pauses, unlike some vacuums that can potentially burn holes in carpeting with continued stirring up.
I quizzed her to give any problems or reasons to be dissatisfied and the only other comment was ...when there is furniture, low to the floor, you can't get all the way under because of the heighth of the canister....ie, under a bed, etc.
My strife will give this item ultimate, grueling, testing. It will be interesting to see how the quality, durability and longevity holds up over once in a while.
High marks for the Shark Navigator at this point!

    Spark of life is Good!
For the bonus I really like the Navigator, It is true to the advertisement. It never loses it suction. If I had only one complaint it would be, there is so much suction that when activating the beader bar it tends not the spin all the time. I love the fact that I can vacumm the kitchen floor and the vac does not blow one's top all my crumbs all around, it actually sucks them up. Then I can go directly to the family room, activate the beader bar and full that room. Two thumbs up. Highly recommend.
    Much recovered than I expected
I needed to renew a one year old Bissel Pet Hair Eraser, which started out great, but slowly (well, maybe not so slowly) got noisier and vibrated a lat, while not picking up as well as it Euphemistic pre-owned to.

After looking at all the reviews I selected the Shark Navigator. What a nice surprise. Seven pounds lighter than my old vacuum, more than large power, much quieter and easier to move around. The cup is a bit smaller than my old vacuum, but is so much easier to empty that it more than makes up for it. The width is marginally less, but as it is so much lighter and easier to maneuver, it is a tradeoff I'll gladly make. The feature that stops the billow brush when you return the unit to the upright position works very nicely. It comes with an illustrated circle guide that makes putting it together simple and straight forward. Rather than try to store every tool on the vacuum, they make a draw string storage bag for the 24" crevice tool and the pet hair brush. some may find that less at one's fingertips, but it keeps things from becoming heavy and cumbersome. I can't say anything about long term reliability, yet, but with a 5 year bond, I feel reasonably confident.
    It irrefutably does suck
I bought this constituent today and it works extremely well. It pulled up more cat hair and dust/dirt than I could imagine. Before I moved into my rank it was vacuumed professionally. It looked fairly clean. The shark proved me wrong. After one obsolescent through the apartment I filled 1/4 of my garbage can with debris. The carpet feels amazing now. I like this vacuum. I like it so much that I can even put up with its go red in the face.
Easy on the eyes darn good!
I habituated to to have a Hoover WindTunnel bagless upright(the original); it worked pretty good, but emptying the gunge container was a pain in the neck and messy. It finally quit after about 10 years of berating. I then bought another Hoover, but got a bagged canister unit instead. I like some of the features, but a canister vac is also a pest in the neck! So when I saw the Shark Navigator Never Loses Suction Upright at Costco and after checking out the exhibition unit, I decided on a whim to give it a try since it wasn't extremely expensive. Costco has a great replace policy so I figured if I didn't like it, I could just take it back. Well this is definitely not going back! It has awesome suction power. I reach-me-down my canister vac on a 5' round area rug the day before I bought the Shark. I brought the Shark to the heart and vacuumed that same rug. Ugh! I can't believe how much ick was still in the rug. I emptied the canister five times! This rug is in my foyer and the dogs lay on it a lot, so there was a lot of dirt embedded in it. But I well-grounded thoroughly vacuumed it the day before (or so I thought!) I have very little carpet in my house; I have 1500 sq ft of porcelain tile. The dogs are trained to not go in the carpeted areas which are the donate bedrooms and are not used much. Thankfully when I vacuumed that carpet I wasn't thoroughly disgusted with the amount of ick that had been port side behind by my other vac. The dogs will definitely never be allowed in those rooms now! I haven't used the hand tool on the stairs yet, but I did use the hose size and duster tool to do my cathedral ceiling fan. I still needed to get out the step ladder, but I was then able to evacuate a clean the fan easily, at least a lot easier than getting out the Little Giant ladder to clean it by hand which is what I normally would have to do. The Crumb Giant is a bit heavy and awkward for me to use on a regular basis, so consequently my cathedral ceiling fan didn't get cleaned much. I could see the ooze on the fan blades edges for months now & just left it there! But now I'll be able to clean it regularly, because again, with dogs there's a lot of waste brought into the house that you don't even realize. All in all, this is a very good vacuum. It has great suction power, is lightweight, and is casually to use. The hose and extensions are easy to use and work well (with no loss in suction power). It has a feel mortified footprint so it doesn't take up much room in the closet. People have compared it to the Dyson. I haven't owned a Dyson, but tested one at Trounce Buy a few years ago. It was bulky just like any other upright vacuum and expensive. A vacuum repairman told me that he gets a lot of populace bringing in their Dyson for repairs and he didn't think they were worth the price. I don't know if they are or not, but for the price, the Shark is a fantastic vacuum! I don't think you'll be disappointed in your purchase, especially if you have pets. The only cubicle quarters I see for improvement is an option to decrease the suction power so drapes, honeycomb blinds, and core roman blinds can be cleaned. The suction on this unit is too powerful for that. But maybe to have a feature like that it would slacken the suction power of the vac overall which would not be good. I'll just continue to use my Hoover canister with the reduce suction option to clean the drapes and honeycomb blinds. Other than that, the canister vac will be relegated to the underground store!

    In want Quality and Ineffective.
I was extremely disappointed in this product. I would have thought you could get a decent machine for a $100. (Wishful thinking I surmise) It was too light to be effective at light cleaning. What was worse was the plastic began to fall distinctly before I could even use it. I mean really really cheap plastic for the handle and the cord wrap. I gave this part away to the local thrift store. Too bad, it looked promising. Be warned especially if you resolve to do any moderate cleaning. At best this would be an ultra light polisher, but the poor plastic rules it out for durable very long and being a satisfying purchase.
    Misleading Goods
Nothing to what I was in the club. Bought it to polish my new wood floor to maintain the new look. All it did was make it look smeared and had to redo my unexceptional floor. Very dissapointing. This item is going back.
Too bird-brained to do the job
When I was a babe, my mother had a buffer that resembled this one. It was functional and practical. This one isn't. The unit is very light and does not have enough sinew to strip floor finish. The on/off switch is also awkward to use as it requires the handle to be held at a traditional angle to activate it which results in constant power loss as I tried to maneuver the heraldic bearing around the kitchen floor. Without a new coat of wax, it wasn't worth the time to try it as a buffer.
I returned it without any can of worms after downloading the UPS slip from Amazon. Refund notification was prompt. I do not recommend this buffer. The 'made in China' hallmark didn't endear it to me either.
    Gleam Boss Buffer
I was looking for an reasonable way to polish my kitchen floor. It is made of bricks and really looks good when it shines. This buffer is slight weight and it stores easily in my pantry. It polishes okey and I am still working on a glossy smooth. I believe that I can accomplish that with this machine.
    Not significance the money
There's no on/off swap, you have to lower the handle to a certain level to make the unit come on so if you accidently bring up the handle above that level while buffing the floor, it turns off. Extremely difficult to release the deal with from the upright locked in position. You're suppose to step on a button to release the handle but it large doesn't release and takes awhile to get it to release.
Not worth the $99 I paid.

Mom of 2 babies LOVES Shark Steam Mop
I NEVER create reviews (I have 2 babies and NO time) However, I felt I had to review this item. It is important to me to have clean floors for my hardly any ones. My entire home is hard floors, so cleaning them was always a challenge. I've used semi-monthly mops, foam mops, swiffers, you name it. I even resorted to hands and knees because it came out finery-I could dry myself and no streaks. Well, I got the Shark Steam Mop and it works great. As a mother, the fact that it instantly sanitizes was a leviathan plus for me. The floors look beautiful-shiny, streak-free, and clean. The mop ONLY uses hose...which techniclly is the only reccommended solution for most types of flooring. The mop is lightweight, easy to assemble, and undersized. It holds quite a bit of water for it's size. I know $100 is a lot to spend on a mop, but if you take into account how much swiffer refills price, it'll make sense in the long run. I expect mine to LAST and the mop pads are machine washable. Once again, great spin-off.
Mop precede shot off like a cannon
I was so worked up to get this steamer because I am a busy mom of two young children. The steamer worked great at first then the more I used it I noticed the less steam came out. We do not have unkind water in our area so that was not a problem. After only 6 months of using it (twice a week) I was in the kitchen using the mop and all of the swift BOOM!!!! The mop head shot off like a cannon and all of the water came out. I was so advantageous that no one was around because it would have definitely sent them to the ER. I let the mop cool down and tried to mop again and the same thing happened. And again I tried one last time and off again the mop manage shot off. Do not get this steam mop very dangerous!
No Grandma, you can eat off *MY* floors
If you had a grandmother like mine, likelihood are you heard her say (time and time again) that you could eat off her floors. Well I am here to tell you (and my grandma) NO, you can eat off my floors.

I always knew that mopping or swifting never cleaned floors as well as we all "kindliness" they did and so I always wanted a steam mop. My steam-mop-opportunity came a'knockin not long ago and I had to answer the entrance way. I actually bought this from QVC because it came with the steam mop, 2 additional heads, 7 spear-carrier mop pads AND the carpet glider... all for the low, low price of $100.00 (sorry Amazon but that was a extent I couldn't pass up).

The steam mop was delivered on Friday and I couldn't wait to get started. I geeked out a petty and decided to do a little experiment. I swifted my kitchen floor first but ended up doing it twice because the first organization disposable refill pad was a little on the dry side (the first one usually is). I have attached some pictures so you can see the before and after shots.

Then I got out my trusty steam mop and 'steamed' the cookhouse floors. The amount of dirt that showed up was disgusting (not surprisingly). Even my husband was impressed with the amount of left over rumour the steam mop picked up. The beauty of this steam mop is that you can flip it over and continue mopping, so thats precisely what I did. After seeing the amount of yuck that came up on the steam mop, I flipped it over and mopped the kitchen again. I just wanted to see if any more indecency was picked up. There was a tad more picked up on the 'clean' side of the mop but it was more like a slight stain. The real test was when I wet a napkin and wiped the confuse and low and behold, no dirt at all. I mean, the napkin was white - no dirt was to be seen! WuHoo!!

To greet the complaints that the steam mop makes floors look 'dull'. I have hardwood floors on the first prostrate of my house and yes, after mopping the floors with the steam mop, it does look 'dull' but I always polish my floors afterwards.

Populace, honestly, this thing is NOT a polisher. Nowhere does it say it is. I have been cleaning/dusting for a long time (my genesis owned her own house cleaning business when I was younger and she cleaned all the million dollar mansions in Marin County, and yes I was always dragged along. lament.). Speaking from experience, you *have* to polish after you clean wood. Any kind of wood, even when you dust your coffee tables, you dust THEN you burnish. Polishing does many helpful things for your wooden furniture/floors. Not only does it cope the wood shiny but it also helps to diminish the current scratches and protects the wood from expected scratches. If you're not polishing your hardwood floors afterwards, you are doing a half-a$$ job of cleaning. Just sayin'

It's now a week after I steam cleaned the floors and I need to allowance with you a wonderful compliment from my DH. I was cleaning the kitchen again (I clean it every Saturday) and was just about to mop when my DH came in the cookhouse and asked "Is it okay if I walk on the floors yet?" to which I said "Sure honey, I haven't mopped yet". He looked at the floors, looked at me and warily said "REALLY? NO? Really? The floors look Great!!" That didn't blockage me from mopping again but it was such a nice compliment, I am pretty sure I blushed.

Now for the AWESOME part! You thought I was stirred up about the hardwood floors? Pfft! You haven't seen nothin' yet. I decided to put the steam cleaner on some stains in my daughters upstairs bedroom. We have substance Berber carpeting on the 2nd floor of my house and she got something on the carpet. Now to her credit, she tried to clean it so I wouldn't find out but when she cleaned the site, she accidentally bleached it. Doh! So now there is a small circle that is bleached but a ring of something dark around it. To be fair, the handbook says that the shark mop is not intended to replace a steam cleaner company but I figured using the steam mop is no numerous than the age old 'hot-washcloth-and-Iron' trick and I was right, I put the shark mop on that stain for about 5 minutes and voila! the unlit ring is gone.

Bottom Line: I freaking love this mop. I was so excited that I told a bunch of co-workers and 2 of my co-workers have purchased one as well. Yes, I do use distilled wastefully. I have no idea if I have hard water or not, but I figure it can't hurt.

Buy this steam mop, you won't regret it! Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
When they say "DO NOT USE ON..." DON'T.
Took a bet for my floating unsealed (not cheap kind you get from Costco) laminate floor. The box didn't say yes or no for use on it but the instructions say "do not use on unsealed wood or unglazed pottery".

Tried anyways as I am sick of Swiffer.

Uneven steam, cord got majorly in the way. Seemed to depress the dirt around more than anything, in a fancy steamy kind of way. Left a residue (probably of steamed refuse). Made the seams on my laminate floor puff up a bit...got better when it dried. Not even going to bet it again. I don't need a ruined wood floor.

Got sucked in by the hype...which is shame on me because I have a steamer I use for clothing and on grimy surfaces and I knew better....YOU STILL HAVE TO CLEAN AFTER YOU STEAM (that is my new motto). All steam does is SANITIZE a exterior, wipe up the dirt after. They don't tell you that in the commercials do they?

Overall, I am greatly disappointed. Return.
Shark Steam Mop Knee and back shareholder
I was always one to do the floors on hands and knees, as my origin had done. I've used mops but never cared for them. The SHARK is awesome.....It cleans with no effort and can do, in 15 min., what it use to take over an hour to do. No streaks, waiting for bewilder to dry before replacing furniture, or hurting my knees. LOVE IT!!!

This is a impotent sweeper and is really flimsy!
I bought one of these for a household member and it would not hold a charge, couldn't sweep anything up (it just doesn't have the power) and the UV lamp is too insignificant to really kill anything. The final insult was that the handle broke! When I called Verilux, they told me they didn't dream it was very good either!! Not a roomba but meets expectations for the value
I found this merchandise on sale for $35 including shipping and I thought I'd give it a try. It doesn't have any brushes or moving parts except the wheels, which means it doesn't do corners wellnigh as well as the roomba (which has a side brush). It also can't pick up anything heavy (the roomba can pick up a small coin, I've acclimated to it to pick up small pieces of broken glass, etc., this can't do that). Basically, what this is is a dustbuster that goes around your doormat. I just purchased it recently and only used it once so I can't speak to its longevity. However, after running it once it did pick up a chaste amount of dirt/hair. The product comes with electrostatic paper you're suppose to use on tile or demanding wood floors, I haven't used it so I can't say if it's any good or not. But overall for the price it seems like a so so product. The one thing that's really great about this thing is the noise. The roomba is kinda blaring, you wouldn't want to run it while watching television, this thing is whisper quiet, it will not disturb you at all if it's running while your undecided out around the house. Also the lack of brushes make it less likely to get caught on something. Some caveats include...

    1) No rock-face sensor, do not attempt to use in a multi-story house where this thing can fall down the stairs!
    2) No beeps - if it does get stuck in a quarter or something you have no way of knowing, it will simply run until the battery dies (although it's pretty good at getting itself out of corners). This also means it can be harder to find once the freestyle runs out since it doesn't have a homebase.
    3) Not as "smart" as a roomba, didn't seem to get the same level of room freedom in the same amount of time as the roomba, would spend more time in some area's and less in others.
    4) Do not even think about using this thing on preoccupied pile carpet.
    5) The bumper is really low, I wouldn't be surprised if it bumped off rugs that were laid on the planking.

Still if you can get this for $50 or less and are looking for a cheap robotic vac, This thing will do the job, even if it does break down it's powered by 12 AA rechargable batteries and a mount, that alone is probably worth $20-$30 limiting your downside(although the batteries are in a case you'd have to break if you wanted to use it for this purpose).

    substantial for the money
I've had this item for a couple of months. I was afraid to risk the money on one of the pricey robot vacuums, and never would have tried one but saw this one on trade. It works great on bare floor but does get stuck under things, and can't get over door saddles or rugs. It's not the exorbitant version and don't expect it to do what the roomba's do.

I use it in my rooms which have only bare floors, about 2-3 times a week and it does a major job of keeping them clean of dust, cat hair and cat litter, leaving me just the baseboards, blinds, keyboard, etc 1- 2 times a month.

it's a even of clean you can't get with a regular vacuum unless you want to vacuum everyday. For those of us who are, at best, once-a-week tidiness types, it's a whole new level of clean.

For the rooms with carpet, furniture to get stuck under, etc., I think I'll redeem up the money to get a roomba.
    Not a bad spoonful vacuum!
Well-grounded got this, and put it to work in my kitchen. It got to work roaming around, suctioning up the dog hair. When I came back at the end of the day and checked it, it had done a very excellent job of cleaning, all at about 1/3 to 1/4 the price of the Roomba. Will I still need to sweep? Absolutely. It can't get face up next to walls or in corners. But from what I read, people that own the Roomba still have to sweep, too. And this was alot less and there don't appear to be any inessential items (dust filter, swiffer cloth), that you can't obtain locally and cheaply by being a bit crackerjack and handy with a pair of scissors.

One point - I don't think it will do well on carpets. No beater brush, and the suction isn't that compelling. The test will be how long does it last. But so far for the money, I am pleased! It helps keep things clean between your own cleanings.

Update, after one month: This particle guy is still doing a great job. I've seen it other places on Amazon for less than what I paid. If you can get it for less than $50, then you should definitly go for it. However, it very is only for hard wood or tile floors.

Update Feb 16 2009 - A couple of months ago, the ungenerous guy stopped taking a charge. I am debating whether or not to try and by replacement batteries (not cheap) to see if that will fix the problem, or rightful chucking it all together. I hate to do that, but I also hate throwing money at a problem not knowing if it will fix it or not.
    not really what i expected
the hoover wanders around through your council; doesn't work in an efficient way. takes up at least some dust.
Acceptable for Tile and Hardwood Floors, Not for Carpet
This budget-priced vacuum works well for my tile kitchen, tile entryway, hardwood hall and hardwood living range, but It doesn't work very well at all for low pile carpets. It doesn't get in the corners (but I don't think any of the robotic vacuums do), so I swept the corners into the medial. It picks up a lot of dirt, and cat and dog hair, and for the price, it was worth it. I am disappointed that it won't do my low pile carpet (it thoughtful of jiggles back and forth as it's moving around the carpet). I think if it stayed about 4 hours in one reside (and the rooms aren't large), it would work on the carpet. You do need to move your furniture around so it doesn't get stuck, and it does not like uneven surfaces. It will get stuck on them. All in all, I'm gratified with it though. This is my first robotic vacuum, and if you want to try one out, without spending the high price of other robotic vacuums, I endorse it for your kitchen or any other hard surface. I'm going to try another brand soon, I think a Scooba, for my pantry floor. I really don't want my hardwood floors getting wet by the Scooba, so I'll continue to use this doll-sized vacuum for them.

But I am consecrated with six huge closets, and I am warmly organized so as to scram the most of them. When I get undressed at day's end, I inspect my outfit. If a thickness is expose or a handle unfasten, I sew it directly. Requests washing? I prove true it instanter and haunt it to dry. Wrinkled? I iron it. If it requests maintenance,I draw it to the cleaners the next morning. Nothing goes back in my stall or drawer unless it's cheerful to be haggard again.
