Inferior Performance & Customer ServiceThis copy (D6500) is no longer featured on Black & Decker's web site. Perhaps there is a good reason. I was initially hopeful when I purchased this iron and valued the occurrence that it was able to produce steam at lower temperature settings than other irons. I dubbed it 'the SUV of irons'. It was voluminous, clunky, and a less nimble than the mid-line Rowenta I tried but it just plain flattened any wrinkles in its orbit better than anything else I used!
I loved the precisely "detented" digital temperature settings and the cold blue-lit LCD display. I was even able to get used to resetting the temperature (pressing the temperature knob multiple times) each and every time the iron shut itself off automatically. This typically happened when I was ironing something larger (a gazette) and not moving the iron with great gusto - which was, without a doubt, a cue for the auto-shutoff to kick in.
My grave gripe, however, was that the iron produced a prodigious burst of steam when returned to its vertical go to sleep position. It sputtered and spouted (ouch) like a snarling triceratops right out of "Jurassic Preserve". I sent this iron packing and opted for a second sample which turned out moral the opposite: little to no steam was produced - ever.
Thinking I would give Black & Decker one more try (a là Goldilocks ...) I returned the impaired iron to Applica for a warranty replacement. My request was approved, but 10 months have produced and gone and I have not heard or received anything despite periodic calls to their 800 number and promises that a new module would be shipped.
Life goes on and I have since gone out and purchased a T-fal iron which is fine. I am now awaiting a refund promised by Black & Decker. Call me picky, but this snazzy iron did not hand over the goods.
Update: After over a year (and additional follow-up calls to the manufacturer) I finally received a full refund. It was life-and-death to fax a copy of the original purchase receipt to Applica. For some reason, I also received another iron(!) which I judged to be a refurb. It operates the same as the very first, issuing a colossal burst of steam from the soleplate when set on its base (heel) after a period of ironing.
Iron Leaks Rust decorated water
This iron worked very well for about 4 months. Then, one day, my old lady asked me to come look at the iron because it was leaking rust colored water. I knew something was very wicked at this point. I called the manufacturer and they told me they would send out a new one, but it was backordered and wouldn't be shipped until Dec. 15th. Sometime in January, I received a verbatim stating that it was determined that I had a valid claim and please cut off the plug and send it to them (it has a code on it, which I gave to them back in December), which I did. On Feb. 16th, I called them again because I still had no iron. They tried to send me a cheaper archetype in it's place because it was still backordered. They also couldn't tell me how long it would be because they didn't have that kind of information. At this details, I threatened to send the rest of the iron to the consumer product safety commission (on balance because rusty water and electricity don't mix). She put me on hold and offered to send me a different iron (still cheaper than the one I bought). I told her no thanks to that also. On restrain again. Finally she came back and told me they were going to refund my money. Now I have to fax my reciept back to them and wait some more. This iron seems to be public, but
All Temp Steam is The Only Way To Go
After having enough problems with my overpriced Rowenta iron I bought a Black & Decker D2030 and was very chuffed. When the new B&D all-temp irons came out I could not wait. I purchased the D6500 which has a ceramic sole plate and I have been exceptionally happy, this iron makes the chore of ironing as easy as possible. Being able to use steam on low temps allows me to in fact be able to get the wrinkles out of synthetics that can't take high temps, this iron also saved me from purchasing a split steamer. This is my first iron with a ceramic sole plate and it makes a slightly different report gliding across the clothes when ironing than a stainless plate, but to me it seems to heat very evenly, and maybe it's moral me but my clothes just look better with this iron than my old iron no matter what temp I am on, perhaps it's the ceramic. Just a note; the ceramic does glide across fabric as smoothly as anything I have tried. There is also the B&D D6000 all-temp iron which has the Stainless individual plate if you prefer. I totally recommend this iron as it has made the job easer and does a better job. I'll never again have an iron that does not steam on every temperature home.
Black & Decker TRO651 Toast-R-Oven, White
Product Description
Breakfast, lunch, formal meal or snacks, this versatile toaster oven-toasts, cooks, broils and reheats a class of foods. Enjoy your favorite muffins, individual pizzas, casseroles or small chicken parts-fit to be eaten to perfection right on your countertopCustomer Reviews
mblackmonWe purchased this effect to supplement our regular oven. We normally cook one or two biscuits every morning and thought we could scrape time and energy having a counter top oven. The instructions stated that it would require less at the same time to cook and a lower temp...not so! It took 25-30 minuites to cook two biscuits at the worn out temp (on our conventional oven) of 450 degrees. Also the trays tip downward when you pull them out. We are current to return this unit immediately. We have bought Black & Decker products for all our lives, but this unit falls far below our expectations.
This caught on fire!
This is not a reassess that the numbers are too small, there is no light, I do not like the beeping. Other than a small fire, I LOVED this toaster oven, but it is ruthless to get over flames in your kitchen.
While I have had B&D toasters for over 15 years, I was shocked to be standing in my kitchen while I watched the top fever element spark and flame up while making dinner. I use this toaster oven on a regular base for baking and broiling and have had no problems for nine months. When I was six minutes into broiling a steak (one of the main uses), it started to activate and at seven minutes it broke out into flames that did not decrease when the unit was unplugged.
My mother also owns the segment and uses this more than the stove. The day before my fire, her unit would not work unless the timer and temperature were both on (had not happened before). I find it odd that two toasters in two states would break apart in the same weekend.
FIRESTARTER!
We were reasonably jubilant with this toaster oven; although it didn't toast well or evenly, the glass gets very dirty, it gets very hot and the heating basics coils catch on fire frequently. We were willing to settle for this less than stellar functionality until this morning when toasting some farrago brown patties. All of a sudden there were sparks flying out of either end of the toaster oven (literally sparks of fire shooting all over the kitchenette counter and toward me) and then before you know it the unit was on fire inside. Thankfully we were able to unplug it before there was any real reparation; no damaged kitchen cabinets and no kitchen fire - but if we had left the kitchen for a minute, our kitchen could have caught on fire. This is the second TRO651 that we purchased, and the alternate one to bite the dust! I will definitely buy another toaster oven, but I will definitely NOT buy another Black and Decker.
Poor Product
Black & Decker makes fairly good light-use power tools so I figured this oven would do the trick too. Not so. The "convection" fan, which didn't noticeably redeem cooking from the start, ceased operation after about 10 uses and after about 3mos. the toaster function clear. This was not from high volume use - we're talking one person using it about 2-3 times/week and mostly on toaster home. The only way is works now is on "oven" setting. This product is weak for the $50-plus price tag.
Shabby Construction
I had numerous problems with this Hero-R-Oven. I've only had it slightly over a year and I am now junking it and looking for a new one by a new brand.
Within about one month, the oven temp dials popped off, and continued to do so each on one occasion I used the toaster. The handle to the glass door came loose next and must be reattached each at the same time or I will burn my fingers. The coils are placed in such a way that it overcooks near the front of the oven, but not enough in the middle. Appreciation is ALWAYS inconsistent, sometimes burnt on the ends but not toasted in the middle. It Never toasted evenly on both sides. Any attempts at mighty result in the same problems.
On the plus side, I did not have some of the other problems often seen with toaster ovens. The timer turns off intuitively when I open the door. It was a simple chirp that could be heard but not too loud. I liked having the shred tray pull out from the front. And the coil protetion was helpful for dripping pizza and such.
Considering the sacrifice of this toaster oven and the problems I have had, there are others that are much cheaper which I am sure would do a much better job.
Black & Decker D2030 Auto-Off Digital Advantage Iron » Living Sense
I ordered this iron from Bic Rely on and they shipped the cheaper miniature because they didn’t have the one I wanted in bloodline. I’ve sent 7 emails to them and they have not responded to my requests on returning this iron. If you constraint to amends something to them, they do not reply in the 3 natural life that it states on Amazon.
