ButtoneerI second-hand to have an old one of these that was great but I find this model to be a poor substitute. It is harder to load, would not go through the material of my jeans and pinchbeck fastener did not keep the button on for very long. Mine is just sitting in the package I should just throw it in a different place.
Stomach-churning replacement for the original
The first from many years ago was wonderful and WORKED. This one is TERRIBLE and isn't worth the money. I do a lot of sewing and this is one of the worst buys I have made.
Works as advertised
Unequivalent to the others, I actually read the directions and find the product works exactly as advertised. We found it very handy to join new heavy black-out liners to our drapes that already had a slightly inadequate built-in liner engaged. No, it does not poke through four layers of heavy material when they are held close together but it will go through two layers at a beforehand and the fastener will penetrate all four layers. We have absolutely no complaints about the product and in fact, we even bought a blemished one to make sure the sewing kit has one dedicated to it.
BAD for Buttons, BAD for crafts
"Needles" are too fat and not keen.... won't pierce any quality woven fabrics at all... Plastic 'holds' are too peremptorily for more than kleenex... Save your money for REAL thread and sewing needles.... Gruesome

Will Not Business in a Real Original ButtoneerSearched & comprehend & tried to see pictures of construction of the refills to make sure these "originals" would work in our "starting" buttoneer. They don't, but we had no way of knowing that the whole insertion mechanism of the Buttoneer had changed so much and was still being called "original." I'm sure there is nothing wrong with the refills, but we can';t use them in our 30+ year old Buttoneer.
Don't buy from GetOrganized. They deceiver!!!!!
The "ShopGetOrganized" supplier cheated me by sending 50 and NOT 100 Buttoneer fasteners. I arrangement NEVER AGAIN to shop Amazon until I receive the 50 Buttoneer fasteners owed to me.

This new sort works as it should, but the nylon "threads" don't seem as sturdy as the old ones. Time will tell.
Earnest handy
This is my secondarily Buttoneer, because I lost the first one. They do a great job, create sturdy fastenings, take a lot less time than hand sewing, and they relieve you of having to thesis needles, which is handy for baby-boomers with fading vision.

more than fair-minded buttonsI already owned the Buttoneer. I purchased the refills. They're thick-skinned to find sometimes. I was using them to fix some cushions. I also used them to attach the arm covers on my sofa and loveseat. I got them here for a good outlay and they came quite promptly.

This result is fine for a temporary repair to replace a button; long term break out the make one's way through and needle.
Of Reduced Value
I had bought a Buttoneer years ago in a bricks and mortar preserve. I only bought a pack of refills online.
+ This does seem to be quicker and easier than sewing on a button,
at least for population who aren't good at such tasks, like me, because we never learned how to do it right.
=> Someone should actually test and set side by side the time used for both methods.
(PS: In general, quite a few convenience products, incl. unavoidable processed foods, do not save enough time to justify the extra cost.)
- The fasteners do not deny very well,
so you may have to re-attach that button within the same year.
- This is a razor-and-blades business model.
The company that makes the Buttoneer is the only one that makes the fasteners.
It's as per usual best to avoid such products, because they cost you more over the life of the product.
+ It does have a number of well-behaved uses other than re-attaching buttons.
The Bottom Line:
1. I'll finish using up 1/2 of the refills I bought.
2. Then I'll lash to using a needle and thread, which is more durable.
3. I'll keep the other refills for those few jobs for which this is really better or much faster than sewing.
AND:
The maker requirements to come out with a new design that is more durable. Probably making the fasteners stronger is enough.

Buttoneer Bond System
It is a dab finicky to use. Not built to last from what I can tell. And you will sometimes waste a fastener. However it does work.
You have to carefully sortie the pins thru the fabric as sometimes tough fabric will resist as the pins are pretty fat. I tend to keep my fingers on the other side to perceive when the pins are starting to come thru. Then you have to make sure you push the plunger all the way in, and then manually jerk the plunger back, before you pull the whole thing away from the fabric and the button.

I have adapted to these Buttoneer Fastening System stapes for years. It's not as good as sewing the button on, but if you're inn a hurry it gets the job done.
