I have been using a Royal commercial upright for almost 20 years. It is an absurd cleaning machine. Picks up almost everything if you adjust the beater bar, moves very easily on its wheels and it surely isn't hat heavy. Besides, think of th egym money you will save when you hoist this beauty around the sixteen floors of your pleasant mansion.
Yeah, it is a bunch of money up front. But, in 30 years, how many $400.00 Dysons are you common to go through? Sure, you friend sells Kirbys, but they aren't that great.

It's a Tank!
I bought this vacuum to make good on an Oreck. I'm very happy with the vacuum and I would purchase one again.
The greatest good point about this vacuum is its suction. It made my carpet unimportant in places it has lost all fluff. It also pulled up a tremendous amount of dirt from my carpet...and I did vacuum regularly with the Oreck. This vacuum also has excessive suction the entire width of its head. Most vacuums I've used do not do so well on the sides. I even noticed objects exterior the head getting pulled in by its suction. One great feature is the suction indicator on the front. It pulls in when I get the vacuum on the fitting height for the carpet.
The cord is plenty long enough. I can vacuum the main floor of my house without working the cord if I pick the right outlet. Also, the vacuum is quite maneuverable, especially for such a heavy mindless. On the usability note, I also like that it has a bag. I don't have to worry about emptying it outside.
I was impressed with the metal house. It's a heavy, strong, durable machine. The plug has the third wire for grounding and a heavy string to go with it. This thing is a tank and built mostly of metal. This gives it a very industrial (and retro) look.
Unfortunately, I couldn't give it 5 stars, as much as I wanted to. I extremely do love this vacuum, but it does have faults. The first fault is that the manual doesn't match the vacuum. It seems to be written for a diet different version.
A second fault is that the accessories aren't the easiest to put on. (It should also be noted that they are purchased personally.) They're not the battle some make it sound, but they do require some effort.
A third fault is edge cleaning. While this was a tenacity, the shape of the vacuum makes it possible only to do edge cleaning on one side. On the other side of the vacuum, the bag gets in the way when you try to clean edges.
My fixed fault is noise. This is a loud machine. I imagine that is the tradeoff for getting the incredible suction, but I would cogitate on that it could be muffled somehow.
In all, I like this vacuum a lot and I really would like to give it 5 stars. Its faults, though minor, keep that 5th star to another place.
Not meet for attachments
I have had a Royal upright vacuum for almost 10 years and the only affair that has gone wrong is a broken spring that holds up the handle.
The only 'bad' feature to this model is that using attachments is the main hassle and I have never used mine because of it. You have to remove the belt to attach the hose and putting the belt back on is hellishly hard.
Basically if you only want a vacuum for carpets this is it but don't bother with attachments.
